HYPE Seeks 365 Ways to Have Fun in Miami County
HYPE (Helping Young Professionals Emerge) is teaming up with the Miami County Visitors Bureau, Hits 105.5 and DaytonMostMetro.com to compile a list of your favorite things to do throughout our county, and the group needs your help!

Whether your favorite activity in Miami County is indulging in strawberry donuts during the Troy Strawberry Festival or taking in the sights while on a trail at Charleston Falls , we want to hear about it. Submit your suggestions for great activities to do by visiting the group's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/hypenmv, where you will find a link to a Facebook event for 365 Things to do in Miami County . You may also link to the Facebook page by clicking on the rotating banner on www.hits1055.com. Not a fan of Facebook? You may email your ideas to hypenmvcochair@gmail.org. All submissions should be specific and include both an activity and a location, which must be in Miami County . Suggestions will be collected through March 26, after which members of HYPE will select their favorite 365 suggestions. A promotional e-flyer will be produced and made available to the public after that time, and the group will continue to promote the list through weekly blog posts on www.daytonmostmetro.com about HYPE members trying out the activities included on the list.

"So many times I've heard friends and colleagues ask what there is to do in this area," says Doug Eakin, HYPE Chair. "As a newcomer to the area three years ago, I was amazed at how much our county has to offer. It's time we talk up the great amenities we have available and start taking advantage of the ones that remain best-kept secrets."

"Being a native of Troy , you don't always keep up with all of the new places that are opening in Miami County ," says Shelley Warner, HYPE Marketing Committee Chair. "This list can be a great refresher for anyone who is new to the area or even someone who has been here forever."

HYPE is a group formed by young professionals for young professionals in the Northern Miami Valley . The group strives to achieve its vision through focused efforts to support social opportunity, professional development and community involvement for young professionals in the area. HYPE was established in collaboration with the Covington , Piqua , Tipp City and Troy Area Chambers of Commerce. To learn more about HYPE or to participate in this project, check out their website at www.hypenmv.org or visit them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/hypenmv.

Board Hears Construction Update
WEST MILTON - During a pre-Christmas regular meeting Monday night that lasted only a half-hour, the Milton-Union School Board approved a few housekeeping items and discussed the progress of the new 217,000 square-foot K-12 complex under construction along Milton-Potsdam Road.

Board member Larry Dehus, who serves on the Building and Construction Committee, reported that the early cold weather has slowed progress somewhat.

"The weather is slowing things down, but one of the buildings has received humongous furnaces that will be maintained at 60 percent. We need to get snow melted so the roofers can work," Dehus said.

Regarding safety issues, Dehus said there has been evidence of smoking at the site.

"Enclosures are now occurring, so the area is becoming more of a fire hazard," he said. He explained that a rule is now in place: anyone caught smoking will be given three days off without pay.

"If you're caught a second time, you'll never come back," Dehus said.

He said that radios being played will be confiscated and can be picked up at the end of the work day as well. With sections being walled in, Ferguson Construction soon will have a security plan in place.

"The police already are keeping a close watch on the site," Dehus said.

With Jan. 31, 2012 as the target date of completion, construction is 40 to 50 percent completed, Dehus reported. For more update information and photos, visit www.milton-union.k12.oh.us.
